Getting ready to hibernate.

I'm one of those weird people who love the Autumn and Winter. I love the clothes; big woolen scarves, hand knitted gloves, knee high boots, cosy jumpers, chunky slipper socks, pyjamas.......bliss. I also like the darker evenings, it makes for a lovely atmosphere in our flat. We draw the curtains, light lots (and I mean lots) of candles, pop the radio on and snuggle up on the sofa. The cooler weather makes a great excuse for hugging at any given moment and we all know that you can't beat a good hug.

In honour of the arrival of Autumn I have put together a mini album of some of the new products that you can expect to see arriving on "Curiouser and Curiouser's" shelves in the next few weeks. Accessories that will help you to build your own nest to snuggle into this winter.

A Trip to the National Museum of Scotland.

When I was a little kid I was obsessed with all things "dinosaur." One of my favourite books growing up was an illustrated book filled with images of huge reptiles. I was fascinated by fossils and the idea of these gigantic creatures that walked on our planet so long ago.

When I heard of the re-opening of The National Museum of Scotland I was really keen to go and have a look around, to re-live (in a small way) my trips as a girl, to the Natural History Museum in London. Dinosaur skeletons, extinct taxidermied animals, gorgeous beetles and butterflies. Walking in to a museum is like a trip back in time, not only because I am surrounded by ancient things, but also because I feel myself regressing to child hood.

The curators of the museum must be delighted by the reborn Museum. It is an absolute joy to walk around. The displays are really well thought out and there are a lot of interactive displays for kids and adults alike. I spent a good 3 hours lazily looking around and felt I had only scratched the surface of what the museum has to offer. I love the way the animals are posed in their glass cases, whether posed in action, or in a more humorous way.............

I am now planning my return trip to the Museum, I saw some gorgeous carved Buddah statues and think my next visit will be slightly more spiritual. I am sure it will be no less fun!

Pandas Arrive in Edinburgh Early!

The Edinburgh Festival is now in full swing and the sun is finally shining. It seems like the perfect time to tell you about our fantastic window display by Kate McLelland. She has made us the most beautiful handmade papercut back drop on green card, along with two gorgeous pandas made out of foam-core, each holding a stick of bamboo. We are really excited about the Pandas arriving at Edinburgh Zoo and this seemed a fitting way to celebrate! They have proven to be very popular, with children and adults alike, stopping to take a look and with such a lovely window display it's not hard to see why.

Our Very First Blog

Hello and welcome to the brand new "Curiouser and Curiouser" blog! We are really excited to announce the launch of our new website. We have collected all of our favourite products and prints together and are really pleased with how it all looks! There are four sections - For The Home, For You, Print Gallery, Curiosities and One Off's and Stationery. Below is a tiny fraction of what we have to offer, please take a look!

We have some gorgeous hand painted enamel ware from Nkuku, an award winning fair trade company based in the UK. The bowls, jugs and cups that come in this range are all hand painted in Kashmir and we think make for a guilt free present for someone (or you!!)

We are also really proud of our Print Gallery which currently holds the work of 12 super talented print makers. I won't bore you by naming all of them, but I will say that they are all really worth going and spending a little time browsing through. Our latest artist is Mina Braun who makes beautiful prints based on folk and fairy tales. We love her use of bold blocks of colour and the joyful way she portrays animals in her prints. However we have chosen the "Happy Fox" to show you, isn't he lovely!?

Finally we would like to highlight our vintage and curiosities section, no website is complete without one! We have a passion for vintage and retro design, which we hope shines through on our website. Currently we have a small range of tea and coffee pots which date from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. It is really hard to pick a favourite, as it changes from day to day, but I think on balance it would have to be this beauty, a stunning 1950's - 1960's Empire Porcelain coffee pot and milk jug set.
